Hybrid

Piece created for Sirens exhibition, London 2019, carved from Katalpa Wood. Inspired by the portrayal of Sirens and other mythical and religious creatures in history. Fusing elements from different cultures and deities; such as Lamassu, who is a Sumerian protective deity- usually taking the form of a woman’s face, with the body of a lion and wings of a bird and Nure-onna, a Japanese mythical creature with the head of a woman and a body of a snake.
